ONE DEAD IN NORTHERN ALBERTA CRASH

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has deployed two investigators to today's aircraft accident near Kirby Lake, north of Edmonton, Alberta. At approximately 11:20 a.m. a 10-passenger twin engine Beech King Air 100 activated its emergency beacon and crashed, leaving one person dead and nine others injured. The plane was in the process of landing and crashed just before it reached the runway.
Wendell Umble, CEO of Alberta Central Airways, said they were called to respond to the accident. "We got the call and then one hour later we had one doctor, five medics and stretchers enough for everyone at the scene."

The airport it was headed toward has a 1,500-metre airstrip, according to the Canada Flight Supplement, the national airport directory.

"Up in that corner of the world, that's pretty significant runway," said Tom Hinderks, Executive Director of the Alberta Aviation Museum and Edmonton Aviation Heritage Society. "You could put a (Boeing) 737 down on that. That's a ton of room for a King Air."

Alberta Health Services report that all nine survivors are in non-life threatening condition.
